In 2014, GlobeSearch was invited by CEO Christian Brøndum to enter into a dialogue with Planday, a highly ambitious SaaS company on a significant international growth journey.
The company was preparing for substantial continued growth and expected to go through several investment rounds. To support that journey, Planday needed to strengthen both its technology and product organisation, as well as its financial leadership.
Planday had been founded by Mikkel Lomholt, who was still CTO and had built the original platform. Over time, the product had grown successfully, but the technology had also evolved into a more monolithic architecture. If the company was to scale internationally, both the architecture and engineering organisation needed to be strengthened.
Our first assignment was therefore to find a VP of Engineering with the experience to build the architecture and engineering organisation required for the next stage of growth.
The assignment was followed by a long series of searches across the organisation. GlobeSearch recruited a CFO to strengthen the company for its expected growth and investment journey, as well as a Head of UX & Design, Software Engineering Team Lead and a number of strong software engineers.
The work was not simply about filling individual positions. The roles were connected to a broader transformation of the company, strengthening the leadership, product organisation and engineering capabilities needed to support international expansion.
Planday subsequently completed several investment rounds and continued its international growth before ultimately being acquired by Xero.
The collaboration ended with the acquisition, but the relationships built during that period have continued. We still have strong relationships with many of the people we worked with and placed at Planday during this exciting period.
