Maximizing your network: a tech industry professional's perspective
After 20+ years in tech recruitment, our advice to specialists and executives alike: don't dismiss meetings too quickly. Your network is your most valuable career resource — nurture it.

Maximizing Your Network: A Tech Industry Professional's Perspective.
As a seasoned tech industry professional with more than 20 years of experience, I've seen firsthand how the industry has evolved over time. We've helped build amazing companies, pushed the boundaries of innovation, and attracted leaders and top talent to some of the most innovative and successful companies. During this time, I've developed a vast and unique network that has proven invaluable in identifying and attracting the best talent and senior executives.
However, with the rise of LinkedIn and other online platforms, the recruitment landscape has changed dramatically. While these platforms have created more opportunities for professionals, they have also led to an overwhelming amount of information for potential candidates to sift through. In addition, I've noticed a trend among specialists who are increasingly demanding in terms of knowing exactly what kind of role we have in mind. They may not understand the power of networking or the importance of meeting with us, even if they don't fit the role we have in mind.
To these professionals, I want to emphasize the importance of building and maintaining a strong network. Your network is not just a source of potential job opportunities, but it's also a valuable resource for knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and career development. While I understand that time is precious and there is no shortage of opportunities on LinkedIn, it's essential to take the time to build relationships with recruiters and industry professionals. Whether you're a specialist or a senior executive, you never know where your next opportunity may come from.
So, my advice to all professionals is to take the time to nurture your network. Don't be too quick to dismiss an invitation or a meeting, even if it doesn't seem like an immediate fit. You never know what doors may open or who you might meet along the way. Keep in mind that innovative companies are all about exploring new opportunities and pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and your career path should reflect this same mindset.
